In the book I'm currently reading, The Oxygen Advantage, the author recommends nose breathing when running,
to improve running economy (lowering the energy expended during running) and increase VO2 max (the maximum capacity of the body to transport and use oxygen).
I'm not a runner but if I were I'd give it a try...
