I want to get a node up and running. Am I best to go with the Raspi and specs on the umbrel site or set up a mini pc? Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated!

I'm running the specs that are on the umbrel site and it's good and you will not find any troubles running with that soon in the future.

I have a Raspi and it is running great. Avoid the plastic enclosure they are selling. You need an enclosure made from metal with heat dissiplation on the processor (costs around 10 $)
Also you will need 1TB SSD and some patience downloading the blockchain...

Cheers! Will definitely go with a better enclosure. Probably just drop a 2TB drive in anyways cuz I wanna do some file storage as well.

If you can... go for the mini pc, in my case the "fanless" was a feature I want and there are a couple of better hardware than a raspi, if the noise is not a problem the options are bigger.

Use a laptop, the battery is important when power is out. I used to sync whole blockchain again when power was cut during the process

Unfortunately I don’t have an old laptop. I will look into backups batteries for whatever solution I end up running. Thx for the advice.

i recommend a second hand business-class workstation. micro chassis would be ideal for smallest footprint.
if youre in the states, i have a few small form factors listed on https://pleb.parts/
im open to shipping without a hard drive (e.g. bring your own) or with an ssd. ping me with any needs and/or questions. happy to assist.
also recommend picking a small battery backup unit. an apc 425va is a good fit. power protection is important!

This was an interesting podcast on why there might be better options than a raspi
