There is always someone saying that Bitcoin is not useful for buying anything on a daily basis.
“Ah, you can’t even buy a water with that...”
But more and more I see people paying for coffee, services, food, even donations with sats via Lightning.
I myself started accepting Bitcoin for small things (like R$10 with 10% discount on sats) and it has worked.
Of course, there are people who say that BTC should not be used as currency, only as a store of value. And I respect that.
But does using it as currency get in the way that much?
What is your vision? • Have you ever used BTC to buy something “real”? • Do you think spending in Bitcoin is stupidity or freedom?
I'm curious to know how you see this.
Have you ever used BTC to buy something “real”?
Whenever I can pay in sats, I will pay in sats. Saves me the effort of having to find someone to exchange sats for dirty fiat notes.
Do you think spending in Bitcoin is stupidity or freedom?
The only real stupidity is not earning in Bitcoin if you have the opportunity to do it.

Could you explain how this whole process went? I found it interesting for everyday life

Simple:
  1. Find merchants that accepts LN and/or help them do it.
  2. If no go, see if there is a middleman that accepts sats. For example I am a customer of a PA company that settles me in sats for errands they run for me.
  3. Check bitrefill. They offer loads of things for sats
  4. If everything else fails, check in with your local friends and see if someone wants to buy BTC for cash
  5. If that too fails, use conbase.

VERY INTERESTING, despite saying simple it catches my attention how each person had a different experience
reply
Its simple because all you have to do is keep your eye on the prize: transacting with freedom money instead of slavery money.

thanks for the teaching bro, God bless

Onchain BTC - SoV LN - MoE

First of all Bitcoin is NOT a currency ! Bitcoin is simply p2p digital money.
Learn more about differences between money and currency. Currency is "money created by decree", by states / central banks / private fiat banks / govs. Bitcoin CANNOT be a currency.

Store the value for sure

If you are on SN, then you're using it as a currency, correct?

Can you explain better? I think my browser mistranslated your message

I was wondering whether the fact that we pay to post on SN, and zap others would de facto count as using it as a currency...?

Freedom money, yeees

There is no one that accepts bitcoin payments near me. There was one restaurant that was on btcmap, they even had the "bitcoin accepted" sticker, but when I asked they told me I can't pay witb bitcoin.

I've seen the same thing but not in my city, I don't know why they do that lol

In some cases in some jurisdictions because their bank threatens to close banking access if they accept Bitcoin. In some countries it is declared by government that using Bitcoin as a MoE is outlawed- generally more autocratic countries like China, Turkey, Russia and Thailand. In other cases so few people want to pay with Bitcoin or even know how to that businesses give up. It still takes a relatively motivated, principled and courageous business to accept Bitcoin. Often one prepared to risk the wrath of bankers and governments.

a lot of things behind it and more real than we imagine, thanks for the answer, bro

I've bought pizza and coffee with it. Oh and yes beer lots of beer ;) I think Bitcoin is 'digital capital' and probably defies definition as a simple currency

Most places its still hard to find many merchants who accept Bitcoin but when I do find one that sells food and accepts BTC I make an effort to go there and have found they are almost always way better than average. When traveling this has worked very well for me. BTC accepting merchants are usually exceptional!
Find BTC accepting merchants near you here- https://btcmap.org/map
Bitcoin is great as MoE and SoV. Good money must perform both roles.
Bitcoins use as a MoE has been slyly but severely obstructed by the legacy fiat cartel - bankers and governments. Fuck them- use it or lose it.
I have found using coinos.io custodial LN wallet great in enabling use of LN- previously it was too much of a tech drama for me to use LN but coinos.io makes it possible...despite the occasional glitches they have they are very good as long as you don't leave any large sums on the wallet its a good enough mobile cash spending wallet and very low fees.

How interesting, how was this whole experience? It seems really cool, bro, to go to places that accept it and talk to people who think along the same lines as Bitcoin
reply
If you understand and appreciate the nature of and difference between state imposed fiat money and Bitcoin, yes it is! Sadly perhaps only 5% of people understand what fiat money actually is (mostly debt and debt slavery) and even less the distinction between it and Bitcoin (freedom from monetary coercion and debt slavery).

You're right bro, many will only want to understand in 2034, thanks for the answer

Why 2034?

I use LN for now, B🧡⚡itcoin is the best
I think using it would be the most appropriate, but for that it needs to be spread more and more. For now it is difficult to use it locally (in my own city) but you can use it to buy in other countries, online shopping for example.

I live in a city with less than 30 thousand inhabitants, more than farms and farms, no one knows what bitcoin is, but buying online is easier
