Okay, so due to personal issues I have to admit to myself my aging brain is not functioning perfectly the past few weeks. Yesterday I decided to take my mind off things by playing with my new bitaxe gamma. It didn't go as smoothly as I expected. I am fully aware that this is not rocket science, but I am befuddled and need help.
My problem is that I cannot access the device through its IP address. Here's where I am so far.
- I plugged in, found the bitaxe WiFi on the network, entered the SSID for the 2.4 GHz network with password, and restarted the device as instructed. I confirmed the WiFi network was accepted by now seeing the IP address on the device screen.
- Next, I attempted to find the device on a bunch of different laptops, phones, etc, and I cannot.
I checked
- that the machine was on the same 2.4 GHz as the device
- I tried different browsers, like Firefox, Brave, Chrome. I tried different OS's, Linux, Android, Grapheme, Apple. I cleared browsing history, turned off all firewalls, VPNs, flyshed DNS cache, etc.
I'm sure I'm missing something obvious. I feel like a fool. I can see the bitaxe on my router online on 2.4 ghz.
Any ideas?
Have you tried using regular http? Example: http://192.168.0.100
Some browsers may default to https which my bitaxe does not respond to
Also can you successfully ping from a cmd prompt?
Example command: ping 192.168.0.100
Replace 192.168.0.100 with your ip address.
Per your suggestion, I just tried both. I tried the http:// again. I also tried that yesterday. No luck
I was able to ping the IP from the command line.
To me it sounds like the web server (the process on bit axe that does dashboard) is not running. Thinking you can ping but not get to web dashboard.
You may have already tried this.
I personal might try these things.
Thanks. You gave me more things to try. The gamma has a reset button on the board as well. I'll let you know how it works.
also, you may want to try accessing this IP from different browsers. if http is insecure, some browsers will nanny-state you into believing that the site didn't load
So far I have tried Firefox, brave, chrome, vanadium, and safari
okay, well... let's treat it like a senior moment then.
could you open a terminal and try
traceroute 192.168.0.100where that IP is your Axe's ip? then share the results please (maybe double check to make sure they're not too specific to your opsec before sharing). if you're able to get Ping to work, I'm guessing you're on the network with the axe... but maybe there's something else on that IP?also, could you screenshot the results of "http://192.168.0.100" in a private/incognito browser window? I believe you that the site's not loading, but I want to see what the screen looks like (this process is giving me senior vibes).
edit to add... I've never setup a bitaxe, so I'm in the dark. but I found some guides online... guessing you've started with one of those? maybe share the guide you're following please?

I will try this too
I agree. If ping works, that means the server is running and accessible, but nothing is listening on the port for the web dashboard (80 for http, 443 for https).
It could be that it's listening on a different port, but that would be surprising I think.
Are your devices connected to a vpn?
With my miner (not a bitaxe) I'm not able to install vpn software on it, so I need to connect it directly to a vpn router if I want my other devices to find it.
Otherwise I need to turn off my
vpn on one device and use that to find the miner on my home network.
Yes, I thought of that too. I have had that problem too in the past. That didn't solve the issue here.
Does it have an ethernet input that you can try?
No. I wish
Ah darn.
I heard @Car saying on the pod that he and @ek had issues with a Bitaxe (can't remember the model). I wonder if they worked it out.
No it didn’t ek looked at it but he couldn’t figure it out either 🤷♂️
I consider it a donation to the project now. Hopefully they fix it in time.
Heatbit still is the best experience imo.
I just saw that you already mentioned that 🤦♂️
I noticed this the other day, mindlessly having the VPN on and couldn't access the miner ("wtf is wrong??")
Same issue here. He's saying it was an IP thing, like it was on a different range than the local network. There's another dude saying it works on Safari though.

I will check this out. I tried safari (and I hate apple!) on my wife's iPad, but no luck. Incidentally, she runs her bird feeder cams on the same 2.4ghz network using that iPad with safari.
I thought your headline was bit axe grandma
Had a similar issue with mine, I just reset (unplugged my router for a few mins) my wireless router and that resolved the issue for me, I could then access the bitaxe dashboard again.
Thanks for the tip. This is just another reason I love SN. I have more solutions than time to try them right now.
Try connecting it to your computer via USB cable and use the web flasher to capture logs. There may be something helpful in the log output that explains why the Web UI isn't accessible.
Good idea
Hope you get it sorted. I’m on the cusp of ordering one myself. 🙏🙏
It seems like I'm the only one with this issue. Don't let this discourage you.
I've got nothing for you, man. Usually at this point of tech struggles I am miiiildly freakin' annoyed
I'm there
I have tried many of these suggestions. I feel like I'm going backwards. Now I can't even ping the IP address.
Sorry to hear that. Is it possible to test this out on a different wifi network? Maybe a trusted family member/friend who is willing to work with you and let you test with their home network. It's not a very elegant solution, but this is a crude way of determining if its an issue with your network or the bitaxe. :/
Yes, that's my plan. I will post here when and if I figure it out. I don't have time to focus on it now.
