Basalt has a melting point of around 1100°C, which makes it impractical for bulk construction. However, basalt fiber — with a tensile strength of up to 2000 MPa — could prove valuable as a composite material in Martian 3D-printed structures. One example is this construction made from basalt fiber combined with polylactic acid (PLA) plastic.
