Interstices are the gaps between things, as with the cells in your body or the spaces between architectural columns. When applied to time, it means the many bits of time scattered throughout the day such as the five minutes that students have in between classes, or the unknown number of seconds that pass while you are waiting for an elevator. These moments used to be given over to silent reflection or conversation with whoever is around. Now, for most of us, nearly all of them are grabbed by our phones.

In the waiting room of a car repair shop recently, I really noticed this. Earlier there would have been people paging through the magazines laying around, or having little conversations.
Not anymore. Everyone is staring down at their phone. No magazines around anymore.

I actually noticed something similar.
My car radio broke, and l had to deal with the silence for a while.
During my drives, l had lots of time to contemplate.
Phones are nice, but they are also a big distraction.
A real catch 22.

Just have a small book of aphorisms or philosophy with you at all times and it will perhaps work out.......learning to be alone with us....the solution is inside, not outside...

This has some wisdom to it. “The solution is inside, not outside…” 🔥
