I had no idea that Massachusetts was the first paper specie issuer since medieval China. I guess the other forms of cheating on redemption notes were good enough for everyone else in the interim.
Massachusetts has a lot to answer for, with it also being the origin of state schooling in America.
I thought that this was the main reason for the sobriquet “Masshole”! Rothbard was on to this since the early ‘60s and even wrote a book about it, (the name escapes me at this moment). It was not one of our better inventions, was it?

I believe "Masshole" is entirely a reflection of their general belligerence. It's purely coincidental that they also bear so much historical culpability.

Sorry, I cannot buy that. I don’t think there is any such thing as a co-inky-dink! I think we are talking about the same people who did the Salem witch trials, started as a collectivist conclave, began printed paper debt notes in the West, were a huge part of the slave trade (along with New Amsterdam) and have some of the worst drivers in the world. Nope, cannot go with co-inky-dink.

Fair enough. They suck, right down their cores.

Ahh … the problem is it is probably not applicable to everybody there. My son’s wife’s brother is a Massachusetts State Patrolman and seems to be a fairy even-tempered and nice guy. It is more than likely an artifact of selective memory and badmouthing by those that have had unsatisfactory interactions with Massachusetts people.
