My son reignites my entrepreneurial spirit.
Many years ago, I came up with the idea of teaching primary school essay writing in both English and Chinese. It wasn’t all talk no action, either. I actually compiled ‘Show not Tell’ phrases and 好词好句 for English and Chinese respectively. I even went as far to tutor my friend’s son using my not-yet-cast-in-stone resources. I shamelessly charged her a token sum as compensation for my time and efforts.
My son, the Minecraft enthusiast, received a Lego set yesterday. This set marries his love for pandas 🐼 and his forte for building things. No wonder that he was utterly engrossed in assembling it the whole of today. Like me, he doesn’t do things by halves. He brought his Lego pieces out and put them together while we were waiting for lunch.
(I was more of a hindrance than a help. When he asked me to help, I applied too much force and sent the pieces flying apart. He literally had to clean up my mess.)
Why don’t I set up an IG page for him and take orders for him? Surely there would be time-pressed, overly frazzled working adults who would pay good money for him to assemble Lego sets as gifts for their loved ones. Best to strike while the iron is hot - when he is not faced with a tsunami of stress arising from the PSLE.
My wife’s laughter is an enigma, though. I think she is indulging me.
