Actually, not my receipt. My son’s.
—- My son, my retirement plan
Came across the “Together for Better” roadshow at Northpoint and promptly answered all questions in the quizzes for four stations to redeem a $5 NTUC supermarket voucher. Passed it to my son to buy his favourite snacks and practise budgeting. Schemed to have him buy my favourite Hersley’s chocolate and inculcate a subliminal message that “however you spend your money, you must think of Papa!”
But I am not hard-core scheming. I literally sat down outside the entrance of the supermarket to share the chocolate with two restless kids. Yes, I have no qualms about admitting that I feed my children with unhealthy snacks to buy a few moments of peace.
$5 mayn’t be a lot, but when used to hone a preschooler’s financial acumen, it is more than adequate.
Good parenting!
We’ve got hello panda here too
Gummy fries look awesome!!
You’re from USA and moved to Singapore to teach English right? That’s why u like Hershey?
reply

You gotta pay to do one 7am morning yoga class on top of the observation deck of MBS! You don’t have to be a guest to do the class! I want pics!!
reply

But I got to send my kids to school even if I am free in the morning 💔

have u read the ingredients, before letting ur son put that industrial toxic sludge into his mouth? u know very well it's not going to make him a genius wizard, and probably going to make him want more of that poison...
reply
No! Already struggling not to let my two kids destroy the supermarket. I don’t have the bandwidth to check labels haha
reply
how about not taking them to this supermarket? it's a very simple change... that also means shopping at more esoteric (& healthier) places for ur needs

I was just thinking about how telling kids not to talk with food in their mouths probably has more to do with wanting them to stop talking than it does with actually being grossed out.

Haha you took the words right out of my mouth!
What has a father got to do before he can eat his dinner in luxury?!

i feel like there should be more snacks for 5 dollars...
although i paid like 5 euro for a quite large chocolate bar today, mentally i feel like it's too much.
just what happens when you are old enough to remember when things were cheaper and are living at peak fiat decline
reply
I totally agree with you.
I wouldn’t have bought the gummy fries for him if I had to fork out money from my own wallet!
What’s an indulgence you don’t mind pampering yourself with?
reply
i usually buy a bottle of wine on Friday, that could be classed as an an indulgence.
if i want to buy chocolate or something, i don't have any moral hangups though as i know all my insulin sugar levels and health stats so i know how much sugar abuse i can take lol
reply
Substitute wine with beer, and you will describe me to a T. I’m glad we both usher in the weekend with alcohol muahahah

So interesting, with that amount of money which is around 3.7 euros you can buy more snacks there than in my country.
Good choise BTW :)

Hahaha, maybe you're right, better to eat ham with a good glass of wine.
reply
Or paella rice!
I miss Spanish food 💔

Those are all S tier snacks!
I'm surprised 5 singaporean dollars (about 4 USD) can buy that many snacks! I think the same 3 snacks altogether would cost at least $8 or $9 USD here.
reply
S tier mean superb?
Likewise, I’m shocked at the cost of living in the States! I can get two proper meals (lunch + dinner) for USD$9 here! (Nothing too extravagant ofc) Guess I better appreciate our consumer price index here.
reply
S tier means of higher quality than even A-tier. It's common in gaming and I thought it originated in Japan. Tiers of quality go S, A, B, C, D

I was a nerd. I never got into gaming during my schooling days. Hahaha
This is brand new information for me!
