The pearl mullet (Van fish), an endemic species living in Lake Van, continues to migrate to fresh waters. The fish, which emerge from the salty and soda waters of Lake Van and flock to streams to lay their eggs, also offer a visual feast for visitors. Since the breeding season is between April 15 and July 15, the pearl mullet, which migrates away from the soda and salty waters of Lake Van and towards fresh waters, travels 23 kilometers to complete its breeding migration.
