@Undisciplined and I somehow got off on a tangent during the latest episode of the Pod and I ended up talking about the time the Canadian Football League expanded into the US.
I did not remember it very well because by all accounts it was an abject failure but there was one American team that did manage to win a Grey Cup during the three year experiment.
All in all there were 7 American teams that played in the CFL, although never more than 5 at one time.
  1. Sacramento Gold Miners (1993-1994)
  1. Las Vegas Posse (1994)
  1. Baltimore Stallions (1994-1995 and 1995 Grey Cup Champs)
  1. Shreveport Pirates (1994-1995)
  1. Memphis Mad Dogs (1995)
  1. San Antonio Texans (1995)
  1. Birmingham Barracudas (1995)

This was (is) real? Or just a funny news without real foundation?
reply
No this was real back in 1993-1995

Hahahaha never knew this

The Stallions were the only team to do well. They actually averaged over 30k fans a game, which is good for CFL, but fell victim to the overall experiment failing and the fact that the Browns announced they would move to Baltimore in late 95. No one cared about CFL anymore when they were going to be getting an NFL team back.

I've never heard of this experiment, but I like it. It would be nice if they did it again.
