I think it would be decent amount effort to change a Professional baseball field to softball. Probally easier to play on a softball field.
Infield has to change, Fences have to come in.
Softball vs Baseball might have the biggest difference of all the sports.
Not to undercut softball but MLB isnt going to finance stadiums that will work and that is what they need are stadiums that hold people. Issues like the warning track depth, outfield depth, even the distances between the bases and the mound to home are not issues. Adjustable fencing that looks good is something that can easily be used along with moving the bases.
The biggest issue that is faced is the pitchers mount needing to disappear since softball is played on a flat circle mound. Even the composition of the infield like grass vs not isnt a huge deal for a league that is practically dead.
Even using college softball stadiums would be an issue not only due to attendance size but also the biggest softball fans are honestly in not very populated areas. Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Texas A&M, etc. are the biggest baddest programs that would have a softball base they could pull from.
