It might feel like ChatGPT came out yesterday, but students who were freshmen when it was released in 2022 will be seniors next year. That means they’ve had access to the most powerful cheating machines ever made for basically their entire time in college. And they have come to rely on ChatGPT. One of the most remarkable things about the product’s explosive growth is that ChatGPT traffic declined in each of the past two summers—when students were not in school.
Only now are schools catching up. In math classes, students are being asked to leave their phones behind when they go to the bathroom during exams because OpenAI’s ChatGPT, Anthropic’s Claude and Google’s Gemini make calculators look like abaci. In humanities classes, professors who understand the mind-boggling capabilities of AI models don’t bother assigning traditional papers anymore.
First of all I'm surprised to know that mobile phones are allowed in an exam.
How?
I've been a teacher here and took many exams for myself as well, I've never ever been allowed to go in with a mobile.
Talking about the capabilities of AI, I'm sure it'll make humans cripple of cognitive skills and a time will come when simplest of the calculations will be helped by AI.
Using AI in education is the worst use of it.

Could this be one of the reasons behind A’s being about 80% of the grades? There was once a time with A’s and F’s were about 10% each and C’s were about 50%. I think there will be a lot more pre-hiring exams for people to take, sans mobiles.

Why?? In my time there was not such thing! How come they allow phones in exams now? Indeed AI in education is the worst usage because it lacks control and yes, skills will suffer. I feel communication is already suffering because of that.
