Bitcoin is already the best currency we have, and with mass adoption in the future, it will certainly be used by everyone in a Type 0 or Type I civilization.
What caught my attention in the text is that nothing Mr. Kaku said about us moving toward becoming a Type I civilization makes sense within the Kardashev Scale. As far as I’ve seen, the scale is based solely on energy consumption, with Type I referring to a civilization that uses a specific amount of energy—essentially all the energy the planet can generate. For me, the points he mentions, like a planetary language and economic blocs, don’t justify that classification. Language evolves, and economic blocs, as we know them, are forms of centralization and coercion.
I understand that what will drive this transition is not some beautiful unity around American culture, as he seems to suggest, but rather the competition between major nations. We’re already seeing a fierce race right now over who can stabilize nuclear fusion. China and Russia—with their own languages, cultures, and without forming a true economic bloc (BRICS is a joke)—are planning to extract Helium-3 from the moon, a key element in the fusion process.
In short, Michio Kaku gets a little too carried away when it comes to the future and sci-fi.
Cut the guy a little slack ya know... 2008 was 17 years ago.

I get it, but even so, today’s language, culture, and economy aren’t really leading us toward a Type I civilization like he suggested.

You sure about that? Sure the uh maga people want to delay the type-1 transition because they feel threatened by it... but the type-1 transition is definitely onging.
What do you think Bitcoin is?
