I don’t see caffeine as an addiction, not in the true sense of the word. You can go without coffee and not experience any real withdrawal or harm. It feels more like a social habit. I know some cannabis users like to call their use a ‘social addiction’ to downplay the chemical dependence — I don’t think the term really fits there, but it kind of makes sense when talking about coffee.
It might be semantics, but people do develop chemical dependence on caffeine and get headaches when they go without it.
