First impressions
First: it's much more complicated to disassemble than the Pro Controller 1. Much more so. First of all, start by removing the faceplate, which uses plastic clips and adhesive, two things that already weigh against its repairability.
After that there are a lot of screws, and some more parts fitted with clips.
This is the second part we have arrived at. It is a plastic piece that serves as a support for almost all the buttons. And all the face and shoulder button contacts are made by a single flexible PCB glued to it.
Note that even in the R and ZR this flexible PCB reaches. If a button fails, replace the entire film.
Below that we have the NFC reader for the amiibos
The PCB is very nice and compact, but what caught my attention the most, and I REALLY liked: no analog soldered directly onto the board! yeeei!
Speaking of those analog sticks that glide delightfully, they are VERY different from any home console controller I've ever used. They're small like the Joy Con ones
Pro Controller 1 and 2 analog stick comparison
The battery is smaller and simpler than the one in the Pro Controller 1. And this is bad for a curious reason: before, the 3DS battery was used! Which helped it stay in production. Not anymore, a simple 2-wire 1070mah battery
Anyway, in general it became much more difficult to open. There is a moment when everything is welded and almost all the internal part slides out. The controller kind of has a large monoblock "chassis"
Also, the HD rumble and the rear buttons are still inside the chassis.
