I recommend just trying to use merchants that accepting lightning payments and not linking fiat to your transactions at all.
The main reason for the slowness is the relays. As users grows the relays suffer, however more are being built as the community grows so just need to keep on top of them and make sure you add them to your account.
As for bugs, the clients are still under development but the devs do keep the development progress public and are generally very responsive which is great to see.
All perks of an open source network. There is power and transparency that you just wouldn't get elsewhere and is why i like it so much.
Has been fine for me, clients are still in development but still very much usable and there has been great progress in mobile clients like Damus over the last few weeks. Still in Beta though...
What client have you been using?
For those interested, here is a great podcast episode from the UK point of view (CoinCorner) who are following similar steps to Strike.
I think the remittance market is a good starting point to build upon to help feed the adoption of Bitcoin to those who need it most.
The partnership with Bitnob (Africa) and Pouch (Philippines) shows us the direction it is going in.
I'm looking forward to the days when a CoinCorner (UK) partnership and the Euro equivalent but understand that there are other countries in need that should be prioritised first.
"learn to use a proper LN wallet"
What else is there to learn unless you are running your own node and linking a wallet to your personal node?
Anyway a standard LN wallet is just as easy to use as is Muun or WoS, my kids could use them all.
The argument for Muun is that it gives you the ability to switch between between on-chain and lightning transactions from a single interface.
Beer and Bitcoin is a good combo.
Still need to buy a beer with sats but looking forward to the experience.
For the most part all lightning wallets are going to be custodial.
Only maxis with enough money to build a reliable lightning node with decent liquidity will have true on-chain and lightning self custody control of their sats.
IMO Muun is simply providing an easy way to move your self custodial sats (on chain) over to the lightning network.
Wallet or not, lightning is always going to be custodial so the difference (and risk) in using a dedicated lightning wallet over Muun is minimal.
