I asked AI and it said:
"From a security and architecture point of view, the main difference is the design goal.
Tails + Electrum is a general privacy system. It has a larger Linux environment, networking, Tor, and many other components.
SignerOS is designed only for Bitcoin signing. It has no network support, runs a very small system, and has one main application.
So the security approach is different:
Tails: protect the user while using a computer and the Internet.
SignerOS: remove as much attack surface as possible and keep the signing device offline.
I think this is the main architectural difference between them."
I usually use Tails, but SignerOS is really interesting too. I will give it a try.
I know there are some P2P projects doing something similar, but I haven't looked into them deeply.
I think the hard part is verifying the work. How do you know which node is actually doing the computation and which one is just generating random data and pretending to do the work?
I'm not sure how this problem can be solved efficiently.
I don't have only one cold walletI have several cold wallets. I regularly rotate the BTC accumulated on exchanges and send it to my cold wallets. Before each transfer, I generate the public addresses from the seed phrase and verify that they match.
So in a way, I test my recovery process every time I move funds.
I saw a news story about a man who left a few million lire, the old Italian currency, to his nephew, but the lire was no longer in use.
