Slightly arbitrary I suppose. But I wanted to be close to around 5 bucks, but also get that magic 21 in there. As the value of BTC goes up I'm sure I'll need to adjust though. It's also designed to keep quality up by keeping spammers out... what serious business couldn't handle $5?
btcmap is great. But my own experience of wanting to add my business to it was a bit problematic. As a web designer that works from home, they explicitly state that I am not allowed to list (unless I'm okay with random people coming to my home). So I wanted to create something that was a bit different, and that would allow businesses that do not wish to be tied to a specific address. So that was my inspiration to create Satmap.app - something where people could still define their general area, without divulging their address if they don't wish to. In addition, I wanted a nice filter mechanism to allow multiple filter facets to stack in a search based on geography, category, payment types, etc.
