What does this bring that btcmap.org doesn't?
Is the data behind satmap open or is it a walled garden?

btcmap is great. But my own experience of wanting to add my business to it was a bit problematic. As a web designer that works from home, they explicitly state that I am not allowed to list (unless I'm okay with random people coming to my home). So I wanted to create something that was a bit different, and that would allow businesses that do not wish to be tied to a specific address. So that was my inspiration to create Satmap.app - something where people could still define their general area, without divulging their address if they don't wish to. In addition, I wanted a nice filter mechanism to allow multiple filter facets to stack in a search based on geography, category, payment types, etc.

May I suggest something? Since btcmap simply uses underlying OSM data, perhaps you could read from there to fill satmap with the businesses that already exist there? And also do it the other way around: add business to OSM when they are listed in satmap.

BTCmap is great and I think is more oriented towards brick & mortar shops.
Satmap I think is more like a listing of services that not necessary have to be in a specific location.
Both serve same purpose: Bitcoin adoption.

Well, that and onboarding vendors to accept Bitcoin. That's kinda the problem most people seem to face; plenty of us are more than willing to buy stuff with sats, there's just no vendors around who accept them and it's hard to convince people to do so.

Slightly arbitrary I suppose. But I wanted to be close to around 5 bucks, but also get that magic 21 in there. As the value of BTC goes up I'm sure I'll need to adjust though. It's also designed to keep quality up by keeping spammers out... what serious business couldn't handle $5?

This is really cool. I even found a merchant I might like to buy from. However, as a US citizen, I feel like the burden of handling taxes for making purchases using Bitcoin is just a huge hurdle, since it’s treated as an investment asset and not a currency. Maybe I’m blowing it out of proportion, though?
