Pretty cool!
Their randomness beacon is available here: https://random.colorado.edu/
What can a randomness beacon do? Often, randomness is thought of as something you want to keep hidden, such as when generating passwords or cryptographic keys. However, there are many applications where an independent and public source of randomness is useful. For example, randomizing public audits, selecting candidates for jury duty, or fairly assigning resources through a lottery.
Using our public API, it is possible to directly use the randomness from CURBy in applications. This can range from a simple random walk (see Ralphie’s run below) to the creation of sophisticated computable contracts that can interact with WEB3 applications. For more information, see the documentation. Or read the paper, “Traceable random numbers from a nonlocal quantum advantage”.
