I've been trying to figure out which game to play next on the ModRetro. So far among Tetris, Toki Tori, and Tales of Monsterland, Toki Tori was probably my favorite. I was worried about the slowness, because these kinds of puzzle games are a lot like programming and Toki Tori definitely felt like that, but I can't help but have an affinity for programming-like things. The game was also just really, really well made. It's written in assembly code and it felt like it - a great economy of game elements.
Wario Land 3 is a platform puzzle game and is pretty widely regarded as one of the greatest games of all time (so far as I can tell) - introducing a lot of gameplay concepts that didn't previously exist. I'm hoping, as billed, it strikes the right balance between platformer and puzzler.
I was a Sega Game Gear kid (basically the Zune hipsters of the day), so I haven't played most of the Game Boy carts and get to enjoy them for the first time. I also plan on picking up The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening DX and Metal Gear Solid eventually (MGS is apparently super rare ... carts go for >$100).
Do you have a favorite Game Boy or Game Boy Color game?

Are you playing on an actual GB Color or on an emulator?
I never own a GB nor a GB Color. I played on the SNES then switched over to PC. But my little brother had a GB Color and he had A Link to the Past on it. I used to steal the GB Color from him so that I could play A Link to the Past on the go. I think it's one of the best Zelda games ever, and to be able to play it on the go was amazing! Too bad he misplaced and lost his GB Color when we moved.

I play on a modern recreation of a game boy color - ModRetro made a handheld that plays the old cartridges (and new ones), but the device has a scratch resistant screen, metal body, modern screen brightness. It’s on the pricey side but I like cartridges.

Nice! I guess new cartridges are made by hobbyists? I still have my collection of SNES cartridges that I play on my old SNES from time to time. But I spend most of my gaming time on the PC and also the Switch 2 nowadays.

Some of the new carts are from independent hobbyists. Quite a few are from small retro gaming studios.
For whatever reason I prefer the small, dedicated device and the scarcity of cartridges. I’m also the kind of person that prefers physical books.

Speaking of books, my family is all about physical books. We have probably 2000 or more books in our home. I keep buying and building bookshelves, and the bookshelves keep getting filled up, it's quite amazing.

The GB Wario Games were low key underrated. Hope they can do a modern version soon. (Not WarioWare). The last puzzle-platformer Wario game that was released I think was Wario Land Shake It on the Wii, which was too simplified
