Those who oppose communism often see works that preach freedom from an oppressive state as communist propaganda. Some communists embrace these stories because they romanticize their cause — after all, they claim to want to free the people from the hands of oppressive and capitalist states, only to become the oppressive state themselves, controlling everything and everyone in the name of the social good of their members — even those who don’t want to be part of it — stripping them of all property. To me, they’re all the same: mafias with different dogmas, but mafias nonetheless.
This video does a great job debunking the idea that Andor is communist propaganda. In a show filled with characters, each with their own beliefs, it’s easy to label one or another as such. But the work as a whole is about the pursuit of freedom and sovereignty in the face of an oppressive state — and there’s nothing communist about that.
