Do you think that farming reduces CO2 emissions since the crops that are being grown grow fast and big and likely consume lots of CO2 in the process? Imagine a wheat field getting abandonded, no more farming, because of a tax or just its plain banned, what would grow instead? Some kind of weed? How much CO2 do they consume compared to for example wheat or any other crop a farmer would plant.
reply
The reason i ask is because of much the land around the world is covered by farms. We have developed and organised it and planted crops that grow optimally. Look at this picture, farms as far as the eye can see. But what if this farming stopped? There would be random weeds growing, maybe some trees, over time. But it wouldnt be as effecient as what the farmers can do.
You can argue that those fields are a form of natural solar panels. They are absorbing the sun AND co2 among other things, and providing energy to us in the end in the form of carbs and what not.

I'd guess this has been written about/researched pretty extensively. One of the arguments in favor of pastured cattle is it can revitalize deserts into grassland and "sink" more carbon. I'd guess there aren't significant deviations in normal CO2 metabolism between plants.
Farms, given the machinery and transportation involved in the end-to-end process, probably produce nearly as much carbon as they capture.

I am prepping for investor meetings this week, looking to build out the CyberHornet team for the resources to deliver and support the entire product vision of Swarm.
From a product perspective, I've been running through testing and bug fixing with the Swarm stack (on-chain, no L2 yet) on regtest/testnet. It's become a real solid base for us to build on.

What is the product vision of Swarm? :)

A fully integrated node user experience for running Bitcoin L1, L2 (and future layers) that requires no technical experience to run or maintain.
This includes things like automatic channel (and liquidity) management, swapping funds between layers, managing multi-sig wallets with recovery potential and a lot more experience-enhancing features.
A Bitcoiner's node should be their preferred place to keep their funds, even if they're brand new. It's the most sovereign way to use the network, and we're making it much easier!

What you describe is close to what I have envisaged is a tool that I would end up using one day.
Ultimately though it would also have stablecoin functionality such that I can opt to keep a portion of my wealth in $$ for liquidity/stability wrt to day to day expenditure. This dollar figure balance would have a traditional banking off ramp so I could transfer $$ to my traditional bank account etc. Or the other way.
I have no idea if thats where you think you are going but it is what I think would be a useful tool for me.
How you make money from that I don't know though.

That's really cool to hear you've been thinking of similar solutions! I certainly see stables playing a part over LN as we progress further (I think stables over LN could possibly be Bitcoin's mid-bear market rally catalyst, kind of like what happened with Defi last BM).
As with all products, it'll take iterations and time to reach that world we envisage, but there is no real reason it can't exist.
In terms of the business model— we're going to start cloud-hosted, so Bitcoiners will pay a server subscription (much like Voltage currently). This will allow us to fund a lot of the software development, but ultimately the software will be open-sourced and free. We will still offer cloud-hosted services and bolster revenue by providing services to the lightning network itself (I'll leave that intentionally vague)
reply
Interesting - is this a hardware or software-only play?
reply
It will begin life as a software play, there’s a long, long roadmap which will eventually bring us to full hardware/software integration (all of which will— in time, be open sourced)
