I'm sure @grayruby knows "wife logic more than anyone else but I'd like to add my plight of not understanding it at all.

As it happened.....

On a recent trip to the mountains we ordered boiled eggs to a roadside tiny stall. I and my brother were just stuffing them like normal and the logic happened.

"Do you know they don't even wash the eggs before boiling?" remarked my strictly vegetarian wife.

And me and my my brother didn't/couldn't reply but smiled at each other.

In case you don't know 'strictly vegetarian in India' means to consume veggies, nuts, and milk products, but no eggs and meat.

Anyways, I leave the legitimacy of the logic to you guys...

You should wash farm fresh eggs but if they are boiled you don't have to worry about it.,

Yes, that's gonna be the topic of discussion later tonight.
"Why we need to wash when we have it boiled?'

Interesting aside - in Europe, eggs for sale in the grocery store are not refrigerated. You can look around a long time to find eggs, because they just shelve them anywhere.

In the US, they're always refrigerated. So always in the refrigerated section in the back, usually.

Since realizing that eggs don't REALLY need to be refrigerated, I've started keeping my extras in the pantry. Haven't had an egg go bad in many years.

Only wash it if you're gonna eat the shell.

In the US at least store eggs are generally pre-washed

If an egg from the coop is a little shitty its still best not to for shelf-life purposes, washing removes the protective coating and contracts the contents so bacteria gets pulled inward

If a coop egg is wet-shitty then yes, and then i'll put it in the fridge and try to use it before it can get funky... but wouldnt use it in raw form (for things like mayo)

No, I don't wash them...
And I think if they had chicken poop on them, I wouldn't wash them anyway! I only care about what's inside and that the yolk is nice and yellow.

reply

I usually wash them when I’m boiling pasta anyway. If not, only if there’s chicken shit on them!

Wash the egg shell? Maybe if it has chicken poo I'd probably wash it.
