SEATTLE -
Amtrak has completed the pile driving phase of the Seattle Rail Yard Modernization Project.
According to Amtrak, it has installed the last driven steel pipe pile, effectively “wrapping up” the pile driving phase of the project.
Over the course of the project, crews have individually driven hundreds of piles between 140-180 feet below the surface.
This is to “ensure long-term stability of the future maintenance facility.” Once completed, the facility will be able to meet the growing demand with “brand new trains that will upgrade safety, reliability, and comfort.”RT&S reported in May 2025 that crews had
begun building the foundation for the 100,000 square foot maintenance facility.
The King Street Yard will support new Amtrak Air trains that will enter into the Amtrak Cascades service in 2026. Previous work included relocating buildings and train car equipment so crews could begin grading the property. My Thoughts 💭
Never had a chance to be on site to see piling done. Hopefully some day!
