You should trust the person you’re marrying.
It’s an enormous commitment, prenup or no, and you shouldn’t enter into with someone you’re scared of.
Sometimes you have to be all in for a thing to work.

This isn't about trusting your partner then, this is about you trusting youself to be a better judge of character than your friends.
Or maybe you know they're ultimately at fault for their behavior in the relationship, and you're not confident that your less of a loser than they are.
Either way, it's an inward problem.

I'm not an expert in divorce law, but it really depends on where you live. That being said, I did not have one when I got married. Honestly it never even crossed my mind.

Oh, I'm not questioning your caution. Typically, assets acquired before marriage are separate property, but that's not legal advice. You really should do a search of law in your jurisdiction, but you have probably done that already.

There is ALWAYS a prenup. You just have to decide if you want that prenup written by the local government or if you want to discuss things ahead of time like adults.
That being said if neither party is bringing a significant disparity of resources to the marriage it probably doesn't make much sense.

Not sure how it works where you are, but here in Portugal you can get married with a clause where only the stuff you get after the wedding belongs to both.

Many older men friends told me I should do that but I fell like it was weird so I went against their advice. So far 11 years (and four kids) in and I don’t regret this at all. And my wife and I fight a lot. We are from very different cultures and different personalities.
I’m convinced that once you have kids, there is no way back.
I’m sure there are some crazy exception cases when divorce is the only way out but I like to keep that option terrible, expensive and unknown. Burn the ships!

My wife made me sign a postnup before she invested in an appartment to rent. Just make sure you don't buy a property before your wife does.

Well, really when my wife and I got married, we did it for love, we were dating for two years and recently we celebrated 8 years of marriage, really before getting married we had nothing, and the little we have we have done together, you should know your partner well, and really when you are going to get married you should not think about divorce, otherwise that would be crap.

My wife and I have different citizenships. For our sake, but mostly for the sake of our children, we were advised to get one. The main reason is that, if anything happens, it gets even messier when the rules of the two countries of the spouses differ in how to deal with this kind of thing.
