Pretty horrifying accident:
Nearly half a century ago, the young ecologist had been out documenting fruit crops in a dense stretch of Costa Rican forest when he fell in a ravine, landing on his back. The long lens of his camera punched up through three ribs, snapping the bones into his thorax.
Mm, the broader point of the article is pretty concerning too

Yes, I know. Something came up and I ran out of time to quote the really important part! I was going to delete it and start again when I got around to it. I doubted anyone would notice since this territory gets pretty light traffic.😀 I have to be more diligent. Thanks for reading the article. It really is disturbing.

This really underscores the dangers ecologists and field researchers face. They’re often alone in remote areas, documenting nature while putting themselves at real physical risk. Respect!
