Farm stands are everywhere but have you ever seen an Art Stand? We hadn't either, so we made one. V1 of our Art Stand is now up and running. We have an ever-changing and limited selection of work out every day (mostly photography), with some postcards, homemade zines and glitch art too. We accept digital payments only in either $USD or ₿itcoin.
We had big ambitions to make the art stand of our dreams – like a large cabinet that opens and closes to protect the work. But alas that dream will have to wait. This first iteration will serve us well and help us learn exactly what we need. Feels great to accept Bitcoin too, if only from the perspective of normalizing it and increasing awareness. -Tom

I'd totally stop at something like that.

may the art stand and its iterations to come attract the spirit of seeking art many times over

That is our hope, thank you!

Sensational idea, something I can see working in some establishments here where I live, like art schools in the beginning. I don't promise, but I'll bookmark your idea and fork it here for my region.
Still, the environment you created here is more fitting for a Farm Stand. That's why I call mine as a fork.
Does the setup take place on specific days? How was the reception?

I don't totally understand what you mean about forking, but let me know!
We have been doing it every day, since all we have to do is set it up in the morning and then leave it alone. We did a soft launch, so no promotion, but we'll work up to that. I have only seen one person stop to take a look, but I think we need much more signage for people to see it in advance and have time to pull over. -Tom

Is a term used in software development and other types of open source projects. I meant that I'll take your idea, modify it, and apply it to my locality, basically.

Got it, I know about forking in that sense. I thought you were maybe talking about something specific to Stacker.News. By all means modify the idea and see what happens. Where are you located?
reply
Densely populated urban area in Brazil. My most likely presentation locations are private educational institutions that have arts in their portfolio.

Cool. Well our biggest challenge with this art stand is protecting the work from the elements – extreme heat or rain. The styrofoam coolers do a good job of mitigating the heat, but do not keep out the rain. So for now we are shutting it down every so often when rain is imminent...

What is it? Kids walking past can make their own art work?
reply
It's like a farm stand, except it's artwork available instead of vegetables and fruit. If you don't live in the US you might not be so familiar with farm stands perhaps? -Tom
