This NS situation feels like covid. Is everyone "safer" if everybody just stays at home and doesn't do anything? Yes, but what kind of society is that?
Clearly we have to accept that our neighbors pose some amount of risk to us. Forest fires can be bad, but curtailing an entire province's ability to move around for several months seems like a bad trade.
I worry that we are becoming accustomed to such trade-offs as these and not recognizing the cost they carry until later: most people now agree that shutting down schools during covid was probably more harmful to our society than it was worth. But it's not like we can go back.
Find your safety some other way.
