Are you planning a long hiking trip and don't know what to eat and store in a small space? Do you want to have long lasting food with high energy efficiency for emergencies or instant trips?
Make your own energy bars with nuts (all kind of nuts). Is cheap, fun, natural, healthy and could last many years.
Buy in bulk all kind of nuts (toasted or fresh as you like). More types better to cover all kind of oils and minerals.
  • peanuts
  • cashew
  • walnuts
  • hazelnuts
  • almonds
  • pumpkin seeds
  • sunflower seeds
  • macadamia nuts
  • pine nuts
  • raisins
Crush the nuts to the size of a grain of rice and mix them very well. Add some cocoa, but not too much, just give it a nice color and taste, plus to be enough like a paste element between nuts. Add honey, but not too much, only enough to make a nice solid mixture. Honey is the preservative element keeping all together for many years without getting mold or rotten.
Put the mixture on a large flat tray, with a thickness of max 8-10cm (2 fingers). Cover it with some cooking paper and leave it in the fridge or in the oven for min 24h until you see that is dried nice and strong.
You can add on top some dried fruits (cranberries, mango, blueberries, cherries etc). Cut the mass in small portions, enough how much you consider that you will eat 1 day and cover it in aluminium foil or cooking paper. Keep it away from sun light/warm.
Enjoy your own energy bars ! Open 1 per day to avoid staying too much in open air. These bars will last many years that you not even imagine and offers you a large amount of energy and proteins.

Darth, you're right. If nature wrote the recipe, this is it.

Friend @DarthCoin, this proposal is excellent—I’m a huge fan of nuts. I believe they should be a staple in every human’s diet, just like bread and cheese. Here, we can only find peanuts and roasted cashew nuts, which have to be roasted outside the house because the smoke they give off is toxic.
Honey was my ally during a tough time in my life when I ate nothing but honey for a week. Cocoa is a fruit from the eastern region here, and whenever I get the chance to buy some from those who bring it, I love it. So, I would truly enjoy having a delicacy like the one you’re showing. Thanks for sharing!
