Gave my Foundation Science class the list of vocab words that they can leverage during exams. I could conclude that many of them bothered to scan through the list because they asked what mammals are.
The lesson somehow shifted to a Q&A session on asthma and whether children would outgrow it. After trying to answer their burning questions as best as I could, I then had to field another series of questions on K pods and their implications. Note to self: I need to find out how drug-laced vaping will damage the respiratory system so that I can draw links to the curriculum and not “waste” instructional time.
From this experience, I learnt that my lower-progress students are not that apathetic towards Science (and by extension, life). They just lack an avenue for their curiosity to be satiated - the things they care about aren’t addressed in the syllabus.
