This is a good strategy. You can't convert someone in just one conversation.

You need to show them and impress upon them that fiat money and governments are bad, otherwise they'll never accept Bitcoin as money. The approach of buying and selling is good and catches on with a lot of people, including myself after much insistence, but few will study it and fall deep into the rabbit hole to see that Bitcoin will only be successful if it's used as money.
