Hello there, Stackers! Today, we’re taking another step towards bringing Bitcoin to the masses by launching the ZEBEDEE app on Product Hunt!
Check it out and help us orange pill more nocoiners by giving us an upvote and a comment.
Because there’s absolutely no better way to onboard the masses than getting them some free Bitcoin inside a game, through a very frictionless experience. And then letting them use that Bitcoin to buy a gift card from Bitrefill, all without leaving our app!
💡 If you aren’t familiar with ZEBEDEE: we’re the people that use the Lightning Network to make money work in games. Ask us anything about what that means, how we make it work, or any of our suite of B2B and B2C products!
While we do want to give some extra attention to our app today, absolutely anything goes: either about our B2B products, our other B2C stuff like Discord/Telegram Bots or random stuff. Like why our Chief Strategy Officer has goat legs.
🙋 With you today are: André Neves, Co-Founder and CTO Chris Moss, Co-Founder and Head of R&D Ben Cousens, Chief Strategy Officer Jure Grahek, Head of Strategic Initiatives
🕐 We will be answering questions throughout the day and will do our best to be around as much and as long as possible.
💜 Don’t forget to check us out on Product Hunt 🚀
Let’s go!
All the best. You guys are doing great work!

Thank you!

ZEBEDEE seems to be on fire. Not only do you guys partner with Slice to pay users in bitcoin for surfing the web, you are embarking on gamification (and collaboration with Fountain app, now that I read the replies xP). How does Zebedee see itself in 5 years’ time?
reply
Everywhere. And Bitcoin will take its rightful place as the omnipresent native money of the internet.
reply
Can a hobby developer like me also use ZEBEDEE tech?
reply
Yes, but you have to talk to us first. Go to our Discord and ask our admins.
reply
What expectations do you have for 2023? We already saw that 2022 was an incredible year and ZBD has grown a lot, but how can we sustain this exponential growth?
reply
In a nutshell: Onboard many more games devs (we've beefed up our sales team recently to help with that) Expand outside gaming into similar apps - Fountain being an example of a partner we're super excited about going live with ZEBEDEE soon (and you only heard it here, don't leak this info, lol)
Also worth noting: games have long development cycles. There's much more already in the works behind the scenes at ZEBEDEE than may seem ;)
reply
"use the Lightning Network to make money work in games" - is huge. Viral campaign of Bitcoin until it catches ;)
Are you in touch with biggest gaming companies? :)
reply
Thanks, we think it's pretty big too :D Have you tried it? Best ever onboarding experience for a no-coiner...
We are in touch with a huge number of gaming companies, including some pretty big ones. For most of the bigger companies (I don't think anyone in gaming is truly a corporation), it's a bit too early. They are interested, but want to sit on the sidelines a bit and wait to see what happens. The whole NFT/web3 thing that unfolded over the past year and a half didn't exactly help with trust towards crypto, but we're doing our part to slowly but surely spread awareness of how Bitcoin is different.
Also, talking big names, while we can't say much about ongoing partner talks, we can say that Square Enix is an investor in us and we have our first title with them live in India (so far, India only and it's a mobile game. Sry, Final Fantasy fans will have to wait a bit longer)
reply
That's great. The most motivating message imo to leave them sidelines is: "Bitcoiners are often quite wealthy users" (and can spend a lot of sats, just like here ;)
reply
foda-se, temos um tuga na equipa!!!
reply
I really hope that this bitcoin-based gaming community and eco system will grow a lot in the future.
reply
I want to know if it's possible to log in in your services with non google phone ? Depending on google services is a pain in the ass and against bitcoin. I know lots of providers use them to fight abuse in rewards paying games, I hope you can find solution.
All the best to the team, keep up the good work.
reply
For now, we're on Android and iOS only.
reply
You didn't get me, I mean I want to be able to play and stack sats with Android non-google phone, like Graphene or Calyxos
reply
Same here. I've got the feeling that privacy is not the main focus for a lot of businesses.
reply
I understand they need to fight bots and google services is a way to do it, but in the long run it's terrible idea to force users go through them.
reply
How does ZEBEDEE compare to other solution in the gaming space? What are your competitors?
reply
We see ourselves more as a fintech than a gaming company. What we build is essentially payments infrastructure on top of Lightning. And then UX tailored to gaming on top of that - both on the B2B and B2C side.So our thing is basically moving money in a seamless way that feels very native to gaming.
Competitors would be other payment service providers, crypto or fiat. People sometimes lump us in with "blockchain gaming" or gaming NFTs, but that's a different thing to what we do.

Any chance of Zebedee operating in New York State?
reply
One day, friend, one day. NY has the BitLicense, which is basically the trickiest cryptocurrency-related license to get. We'll get there, but it'll take a while.
reply
I know the BitLicense is ridiculous. It's frustrating because I look forward to checking out your app.
reply
How come there are no negative replies on Product Hunt? Are the replies filtered? :)
reply
I don't know, I don't think they're filtered. I guess Product Hunt is a platform where your fans come to support you and new people find you. It would be kind of weird for someone to seek us out on Product Hunt to give us shit. I mean, they'd have to be pretty pissed :D I'm sure there will be some salty comments before it's all said and done.
reply
Yeah, especially I'd expect anti-bitcoin people to come out of woodworks.
Either way, congrats to the launch!
I just downloaded the app, the login through "G" didn't work for some reason - the app state didn't change after getting the callback from the browser confirmation (using Brave).
reply
how do you pronounce Zebedee and where did the name came from?
reply
Apparently, the Biblical name Zebedee means "gift of god". But actually, we're named after a freaky cartoon our CEO watched when he was a kid in the UK.
It's pronounced like this:

Interesting

Wen Florida?
reply
We're working on it, we swear. Getting licenses takes time and Florida is a tricky one.
reply
Thank you 🙏 I loved the app and then moved to Florida and was shut out 🥲 any idea how to get the sats out?
reply
Loving the idea of gamification. What a great way to excite and ease people into the world of BTC! Would like to ask about the impetus behind the game((s). Who developed them and how were they inspired? TIA!
reply
These aren't BTC-focused games. It's normal games from non-crypto-related studios that decide to implement Bitcoin rewards because it improves their retention and monetization KPIs. If they could do it with USD, they would. But they can't, because it's shit money. Bitcoin is the best money, especially for this specific use case (sending tiny tiny amounts of money to anyone in the world instantly through a game).
Most studios live on ZEBEDEE right now are indies that had games that didn't perform well, so they added Bitcoin-powered player rewards. And wouldn't you know it, the games got massively more profitable and successful!

Which AAA game is next?
reply
You mean which is first? The game we're playing on the AAA side is called the Long Game.
