There are some people who never bring anything positive to your life, but noise and hatred. It might happen everywhere and, of course online, it's exacerbated. It'd be really useful and healthy to have a way of preventing comments from some people to show up while you're enjoying SN.
Of course, ignoring those comments is the way to go, but it's time consuming to even have to see them, hide them, and go about your life, so is there any way to prevent them to show up or any plans to add it some time in the future?
Are you talking maybe about comments when someone is not keeping the same language to which he/she is replying to?
reply
Of course not. Any language, and music, and culture, and of course and most importantly foods, I respect and welcome dearly. :-)
reply
That was a slam dunk
reply
Great, we're going to have to have different SN versions in the different languages and I have to figure out some way to do content aggregation to keep connected outside the English language bubble because using a translation extension was just too inconvenient for you.
Reminds me, making a platform where the only form of communication is via emojis was on my to do list...unfortunately, I have a lot of fun projects going around.
reply
And you really think the best way to penetrate English language bubble is to reply in different language than a post or a comment that you reply to, lol
Like the best way of ordering some food in restaurant abroad is to order it in your ununderstandable language, but hey, talking s-l-o-w-l-y, lol
ask Jewish people why is it still just too inconvenient to buy german cars for some of them, even till today...
reply
I think that's a privilege and I feel grateful and humbled when somebody who speaks a different language, even more so when it's a very different one, finds what I have to say interesting enough to take the time to read it and make the effort to reply on their own language bringing what I posted to other people who might have never been able to read it.
On top of that, I might get a couple of sats from some of those people I would've never reached myself, but did thank to my unexpected translator. Isn't variability and diversity the most wonderful thing nature gives us? :-)
reply
That's ok, I respect your point of view. But, personally - I respect people who respect my precious time, e.g. by not forcing me to waste my time on unnecessary translation (especially: this)

Вас никто не заставлял это переводить

Is there anyway to make people stop complaining. It hurts my eyes to read complaints. I hate it when people complain. Why can't people just not complain?
reply
You want to be able to mute certain users?

I've just thought that since the state of the hidden option is kept individually for every comment at the client side (through cookies, I guess?), it could be good enough to also keep track of unwanted sources and set the hidden option automatically for those instead of needing to be done individually for each comment.
reply
We can do something like that.
reply
That'd be awesome! Thank you! :-)
reply
Yes, that I'd like. For me only, of course, and their comments only. One can always chose not to read their posts as OP, but can't avoid seeing their comments while enjoying others' discussions. It'd be healthy to simply don't see them, in my opinion.
reply
Three dots next to the name. Click on that and then click flag. This signals to SN that you think the comment was disruptive to the enjoyment of the platform.
reply
Thank you, I'm aware of that and have used it a couple of times. I was reffering to something different on my OP.
reply
Yeah, that's the only mechanism right now unfortunately
