I can confirm this to be true. I literally stopped being on any of my social media and, to be honest, being on the Internet as well. At first it was very hard for me the urge to login again, the feeling someone might have commented on my post, what my friends are doing and what they are posting, etc. was way too much. But that's part of digital detoxification. You get irritated, worried, bored quickly and maybe you'll go back again but I controlled it. Life is so much better now my mind is calm, I sleep better and for longer hours, I'm less worried about stuff, I don't stress over things that are beyond my control. My relationship with friends and family has improved a lot and I feel closer to them. my attention span has improved a lot. I just hike now, spend more time reading, walking and doing my stuff. I will never regret this decision in my life I did something really great for my mental health. My mom was right, it was the damn phone and Internet.
My friends are still on those social media and especially that brainrot Tiktok. I think they'll quit sooner as they see me as a living example of someone who did it and is doing alright. Their mental health is worse they can't sleep properly, they feel tired and burned out all the time. They do try methods like using a text only launcher, setting screen time, logging through the browser only, but that dopamine attack just ruins everything. I'm only on Stacker News, Nostr and a lurker on Reddit (because some subs are very useful) as i don't have an account there anymore. Even boredom is a blessing for me now lol
