I'm coding https://bitcoin-safe.org/ for over 2 years. AMA!
Main 2 goals with Bitcoin Safe:
- Make long terms Bitcoin savings (Single & Multisig) easy and safe
- Remove need for centralized electrum servers --> Solution: https://ellemouton.com/posts/bip158/

I've posted a quick review on X to my Korean community but didn't get any engagement unfortunately. I think they're comfortable using nunchuk and sparrow for now. What would you suggest I could highlight to others in which Bitcoin Safe is "better" than these alternatives?
What problem did you see unaddressed by other products that made you build Bitcoin Safe?
A self-sovereign easy multisig setup wizard. So I programmed one in Bitcoin Safe.
Whats that?
Have you considered changing the name of the project? I think it's cool, but every time I try to search for you, it's hard to find because the terms are pretty common.
Yes, this is great advice.
I once bought a kids laptop called
Hack Computer... it was specially designed with their own OS to teach kids computer skills. What I didn't anticipate is, since it has its own OS, when I had to troubleshoot the OS and searched google for "Hack Computer x y z", I got entirely irrelevant results because "hack computer" is such a generic term with plenty of online interest, and in addition the
x y zsearch terms were all within the domain of general hacking and general computing as well!Exactly. Sadly the way the internet works, unique strings are best for helping people find you. But it also probably needs to be meaningful.
It's definitely true that I've been thankful for unique software names when trying to trouble shoot something.
Yes, I'm open for suggestions!
BitCompact Wallet (#1215749) ๐ค
yeah, maybe bringing CBF into the name is not a bad idea. Have to think about it.
Haha, how about Bitcoin Safu
or just Safu Wallet
Haha, that's an excellent name actually
maybe it can carry a bad connotation, as in the joke "your funds are safu"
@Scoresby is right. It's difficult to search for and very generic sounding.
Some ideas:
Lighthouse Bitcoin Wallet Nest Bitcoin Wallet Shield Bitcoin Wallet Fortress Bitcoin Wallet Haven Bitcoin Wallet
I like your wallet app ! And now that you want to introduce the CBF is even better! I don't have some specific questions about the app, is quite straight forward and easy to use, with plenty of documentation. Really nice done.
So I only came here to give you some upvotes and my support. So... keep up the good work man, is really good.
thanks so much!
What excites you most about the Bitcoin space?
Bitcoin = hope
Looks cool, I'm going to play with it.
You require hardware signers. Can you use a mocked up hardware signer (say, Blue Wallet on a phone?) Just for test purposes?
Or would there be another way that someone who didn't have a hardware wallet could use it?
On testnet I support seeds.
once quantum computing becomes available for the general public wonโt it make it extremely difficult for projectโs like this one?.
this will take a LONG time.
Congratulations for the great work done so far!!!!
Do you think to create an app version in the future?
thanks.
No building for Windows, Mac and Linux is already enough work.
Choose your destiny, doneness victory
Wondering how you manage to get in-house expertise or volunteers to offer your service in close to 20 languages!
:-D It's 99% AI translations, and a few volunteers contributing on https://hosted.weblate.org/engage/bitcoin-safe/
I really like the design and look of the application but I donโt have a real use for it now!
What is your long term goal with the application? Do you plan to monetize? Do you view sparrow as your main competitor?
I'd like to make it long term sustainable, yes (I need to eat too). Not sure how to do this best though.
Sparrow is a great wallet for very technical people.
I'd like to remove as many foot-guns as possible in Bitcoin Safe, such that more people have the confidence to self custody.
Cool project! I really like the label sync. Do you all have other ideas for using nostr with bitcoin longterm wallets?
Yes, sending PSBTs to do remote signing in a multi-party multisig. And it works. It will even work cross-wallet https://github.com/satsigner/satsigner/pull/223
If it weren't for bitcoin, what do you think you life and career would be like?
Bitcoin = Hope! So I'd be missing a lot of hope in my career.
How has your view of bitcoin and the bitcoin community changed as you've built Bitcoin Safe?
Bitcoin community is great. And afaik it has stayed great. Lots of smart and humble people in this space.
What's the most surprising thing you've learned building Bitcoin Safe?
What a blessing and a curse pythons garbage collector is.
Congrats, and thanks for all the work youโve given to the Bitcoin community.
What was the โclickโ moment that made you wanna start doing this?
Understanding how Compact Block Filters work after reading this article: https://ellemouton.com/posts/bip158/
Electrum servers are a pain to run and keep-up by yourself, so I expect most people just go with a centralized server of some company. This reveals ALL addresses however to this server (tor only helps little). So this is a privacy problem. But it can be solved with Compact Block Filters !
Bitcoin Safe also uses electrum servers currently, because it works.
However in the background I'm developing the Compact Block Filters.
