Pre the birth of the Islanders, I was a huge Rangers fan. Eddie Giacomin was one of my heroes.
I had a brief encounter with him in 1971. My mother would drop my sister and I off at the local swimming pool in the summers. My job was to look out for my sister. One day she came to me in the pool crying that some man was sitting on her beach towel. I got out to investigate, and realized it was Eddie Giacomin. I was awe struck and stammering. He was gracious, of course, and gave me an autograph. My sister remained upset about the towel.
