fun fact: in Bitcoin there's only ONE chain.
There's NO "base chain", "main chain" or "second chain".
IT IS ONLY ONE. And always will be just one.
Even if you use LN (Lightning Network), you are still on the same "base chain", only that your channels status are not yet broadcast.
LN is the payment network for Bitcoin. That's why is named "network" and not "chain". It serves as a payment network for the Bitcoin chain. "The chain" is not supposed to be used for payments, only for opening/closing payments channels.
Satoshi was talking about "payment channels" even long before they were created:
https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Payment_channels
This is the beauty of LN and yet many users still don't know how it works.
There's a large misconception among users that LN is something different than Bitcoin, but is not. Is PURE Bitcoin.
All others are total garbage.
Worded differently did you pay fees to the miners to confirm your transaction today?
Better?

Yes, now make more sense :)
Keep in mind: also on LN you pay fees, to routers/ LSPs.
