The White House budget office has instructed federal agencies to prepare to fire a ton of people (aka 'reduction-in-force' plans) that could permanently eliminate jobs in the event of a government shutdown - the latest twist in the latest shutdown groundhog day - effectively challenging Democrats to a game of chicken.
That has been the plan ever since Trump started his campaign. I'm not sure if that's worth in every department, but surely sometimes better if not I'll intended.

This is basically what I was advocating when he first came into office and there was a similar standoff.
It’s an interesting way around the backpay requirement for federal workers.

Would be a spicy time for eastern Europe or Pacific to pop off, with some impacts domestically to the grid/comms/riots, resulting in full military control

My brother is in the army. He hates these shutdowns because all of a sudden he stops getting paychecks. Since he is active duty, he legally can not choose to quit or go get another job. He has to keep reporting. Makes life hard on his family.
They do get back pay when the government resumes.

Honestly this is one of the most under talked about things. When they furlough employees the Federal Government has essentially gone back and paid all these people for however much time has gone by. Literally it has turned into a paid vacation. This is exactly what should happen and if the Senate Dems want to supercharge the Trump admins revamp of the Federal government then well you are giving him a huge win here!
