Brett Weinstein, on the Dark Horse podcast, just had Nina Teicholtz on to discuss nutrition, particularly seed oils.
Brett Weinstein is one of my long-time favorite podcasters, he's a former leftist professor at Evergreen College in Olympia, Washington, who was kicked out when he protested racially divisive politics.
And Nina Teicholtz is the author of The Big Fat Surprise, which I wrote about in this post 2023-11: This book is blowing my mind - The Big Fat Surprise by Nina Teicholtz.
This book lays the foundation, and then step by step, establishes the framework for a complete reversal of mainstream nutritional advice. In other words, all these generally accepted "facts":
  • The more fruits and vegetables, the better
  • Whole grains are best
  • Saturated fats are bad
  • Seed oils (canola, etc) are better than animal fats
  • Meat is bad, and red meat is particularly bad
  • Eat plenty of carbs, they should be the foundation of your diet.
  • Vegan is best
...are torn to pieces. It inspired me to research more, and start eating the carnivore diet, which I've now done for almost 2 years.
And the history of her awakening interest in this topic, starting about 15 years ago when she was assigned to write a magazine story by Gourmet Magazine, investigating seed oils - it's like a crime story. Fascinating.
Just for kicks, here's some of my previous posts on nutrition and the carnivore diet.
