The more I have read into this civil case the more and more it reeks of a coverup by the Angels. The Angels paid for Eric Kay's legal team during his criminal case for supplying Tyler Skaggs with fent laced pills that caused his overdose and actually three years after he was convicted and started his Federal Prison sentence continue to pay for his defense. Not to mention the lead defense attorney for the criminal case was Michael Molfetta.... his son's high school baseball coach was Eric Kays brother Brett Kay.... and then signed Christian Molfetta the attoney's son as a minor league free agent when his stats..... they were no where near good enough to him to last 4 years in the organization.... his best hitting season.... he hit 200 in A+ in double and triple A he hit under 200.
The Angels entire defense relies on saying that the Angels had no idea that this type of behavior was going on when we had multiple athletes testify in the criminal trial about being supplied by Kay, how he didn't have a track record of doing terrible things or having inappropriate relationships within the organization things that have all be settled.... and how all of this stuff has been documented as occurring.
At the end of the day yes Tyler Skaggs was the one who took the pills, even though he thought they were something else, no one forced him to. However, it is also clear from the criminal case testimony that the Angels just had no sort of order or control over their own employees and appropriate behavior. This lets someone who is abusing continue to instead of getting help and that is the sad part. The Angels could have set up basic things that most if not all teams have to help their players. Angels didnt do that and a player ended up paying with his life.
