I talked to a friend yesterday who runs his own Bitcoin and Lightning node. He didn't know about the Core-Knots drama. He doesn't use Twitter, just occasionally checks the mailing list. He just laughed when I told him what people are getting riled up about these days—the good old child porn argument (Grammarly just suggested I replace my full stop with an em-dash~~), and the fabricated US-flavored woke/anti-woke rift between the two factions.
Do you know people into Bitcoin around you that don't know (or don't care) about this (imo) non-event? I'd like to not care, but I'm a sucker for this kind of drama, so I end up reading up on it whenever I see some post about it.
This is good perspective, not just for btc, but for everything, even the most personal of your personal life: nobody really cares about almost anything that seems like a giant deal in your personal bubble; that zit on your nose that you can't stop obsessing about because it's so hilariously disfiguring, almost nobody notices.
reply
Either side here has someone on the other side representing that annoying zit~~
Right perspective.

here's the problem of people who are busy doing the Great Work and try to not get involved in the drama:
just because a man doesn't believe in some ridiculous religion, he is not free from the consequences of behavior of people who do believe in such religion;
what is a man to do? i think that in such a scenario some of the effort of working on Great Things has to be allocated toward re-educating the dumb people; it is way too easy to get caught up in cults!
@south_korea_ln do u think that Korean Drama shows contribute to ur emotional involvement in Bitcoin drama?
reply
Wow, that's something i hadn't thought of. But i don't really watch many dramas, other than the few hit shows. I hope it doesn't~~
reply
I've always been exposed to some of it through the dev mailing list and the Bitcoin Core Github, but I could totes do without if I'm honest. I like spending time on real issues, even if they're small, much more.
reply
Don't get much cloud caring about the small things, even though they matter much more.

There's nothing better than that peace of mind. I suppose that in a bitcoinized economy those dramas will be very local and hardly spread among the non-custodial masses.
reply
Within our lifetimes, you think, a bitcoinized economy?

I'm terrible at predictions and many of the ones I've seen in my life misled me about the outcome. Some that seemed impossible happened, others that seemed simple never did. Having said all that, I don't think a global Bitcoinized economy will occur in my lifetime, even if I live another 60 years. Locally yes, and are happening in many places.

Tell your friend to get on SN!
reply
He's not much into any type of social media. At least, that's what he says. I've mentioned SN before, so maybe he did join under a nym without telling me. He values privacy more than I do. His profile matches @optimism's very much in terms of his knowledge and thoughts on AI and its limitations, but I'd say that's probably the case with most people seeing through the VC-bullshit narrative.
reply
Your friend’s super smart!
reply
He actually is. Might explain his cynicism.
reply
Note: I'm not that knowledgable on the topic of AI! GPT and Grok know way more than me (~lol) ... I'm just curious and test things!

It tried to frame you as a chatgpt poster!
To answer your question, not many bitcoiners around me who are aware seem to be that worried. I'm not sure if it's because they don't understand or care about the debate. A few technically minded folks that come to mind seem to be aware but busy with other things they have more impact with (building, networking, getting involved in other ways like meetups etc.)
reply
It's mostly the ones who don't understand it that seems to care the most. To be fair, there are technical people on both sides, but it's not evenly distributed.

I think an issue that goes underappreciated is that the same arguments are being rehashed in every thread and visible debate.
There's barely, if ever, an acknowledgement about the bad PR from the way things have been handled.
This is not my own opinion, but only what I've noticed. Of the folks I've seen jump on the knots bandwagon without taking the same to dive deep into technicals, their POV (whether correct or not) is that things appear to have been pushed rapidly with little regard about pushback or feedback, often seeming to derive enthusiasm and glee from the reaction.
I get that Peter Todd is gonna be Peter Todd, just like I get that Darthcoin is gonna be Darthcoin, but just my two cents.
TL;DR: Folks have a kneejerk gut reaction when they perceive Core not acting like graceful and careful stewards.
EDIT: Who infected me?
reply
I know many OGs (non-english and english speaking) that simply ignore this fabricated drama.
I tend to ignore it too. It will be over soon.

Yeah, the CP argument has been there since the early beginnings...

It would be nice to simply work on your craft, stack, save and spend where you can.
I've also been drawn into the drama as I think its important to have an opinion on which direction Bitcoin goes. It's just unfortunately time consuming.
reply
It's entertaining at this point. But there are better ways to spend time, indeed.

SN is great place compared to all other main stream social media

100%.
All riled-up ridiculous nonevent. Move along, idiots

I bet 99% of users don't know about these behind the curtain dramas. I know people who never heard about "ledger recovery" story, they don't know what is UTXO, when I tell them about lightning they think it's about weather. It won't make any obstacles to use Bitcoin the same way people don't know how works current financial system however we use it without problems.

Could be case for any language not english only

Many true Bitcoiners aren't focused on social media hype; they simply have their node, dedicate themselves to studying, and sometimes to mining. And they already know they're helping to build the money of the future.
reply
Maybe everyone around us is already using Bitcoin... meaning they don't really care about Core vs Knots.
And we just don't even know it.
