The question is likely stupid, but hopefully it will clear some misconceptions I have.
I got a brand new Avalon nano 3s (first time miner) and it appears my best choice is to join Braiins pool for a small consistent lightning payout.
But is it possible for me to set it in a way that it does not allow spam at least so far as my contributions go? Basically, can I take the knots side in the core vs knots battle (by running a miner, not a node). Does every miner also run a node behind the scene as well?

Not 100% sure, but what I know is that If you join a mining pool, you don't need to download the (filtered by core or knots) bitcoin blockchain, because the pool has it's own chain to validate blocks.
If you mine solo, you choose your preferred bitcoin implementation, your block templates and other stuff.

I am no expert in a the mining options but I believe if you want that level of control ability you will need to run a node and run something https://www.ocean.xyz/docs/datum which will give you the options for defining your block template.

Will be totally useless like if you will put this mask on your miner and say that will filter spam. Maybe will filter it for you, but not for everybody else.

But I thought miners are the ones who create the next blocks, not the nodes!
So a miner cannot decide? Or is it a matter of solo vs pool mining, as in if I join a pool then I have no say in it?

run it and find out... I am just warning you. Did you also wearied a mask during covid-histeria ? You know that lack of oxygen was affecting severely brains if you wearied a mask...
