Excellent article. I just saw your post this morning when preparing the newsletter. The opening reminds me of the first time I saw those stars at Grand Central. My whole life they were covered with a century of grime until they did a massive renovation a while back. I looked up and remembered why I still like New York.
Anyway, good article, but the one thing that seems to be ignored by all the local press is the gigantic, bloody red elephant in the room. Mamdani was the only candidate who seemed even remotely capable of standing up against the zionists and Israel. there is a very strong feeling among New Yorkers who lean both left and right that Israel controls the city and the country. This factor is being downplayed for fear of fomenting anti semitism. I really think this mattered to that crowd more than his socialist policies.
We're in a strange political era where you vote AGAINST shitty candidates rather than for slightly less shittier ones
Wonderful about the stars. It still befuddles me that anyone, let alone 10 million people, could like New York. (You can just leave, you know!!)
