With levels of the dam providing water to the second most populous city Mashhad falling below 3% the majority of the country is in deep deep trouble. Iran's Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, has repeatedly acknowledged the looming threat going back all the way to 2011 however little has actually been done to address this critical shortfall. The 12 day war definitely did not help the situation as bombings were going to cause breaks downs in all areas of infrastructure including water.
President Masoud Pezeshkian has warned that if there is not enough rainfall soon, Tehran's water supply could be rationed. But he said that even rationing might not be enough to prevent a disaster."If rationing doesn't work," Pezeshkian said, "we may have to evacuate Tehran."His comments have prompted criticism in Iranian newspapers and on social media. Former Tehran mayor Gholamhossein Karbaschi called the idea "a joke" and said "evacuating Tehran makes no sense at all".
This has led to some people beginning to write about how Iran could possibly resume strikes against Israel as a distraction for the population against the massive water shortage. The water that remains in the dams around the Capitol of Tehran are rapidly falling to a level that makes it unusable due to it becoming "dead water" this is an issue that California a couple of years ago almost ran into.
