Always OV with English subtitles as backup because I struggle a bit with hearing.
I've felt for a longer time, especially before the mass internet, that the exposure to spoken English on TV has a large influence on proficiency later on. With the mass internet, this exposure has grown.

Every time I search for something online, I do so in English because I know I will get more and better results.

I tried doing the dubbed movies to strengthen my German language but the voice acting is very disturbing if you know what the actor actually sounds like - maybe genAI can fix this, lol. I do watch my football on German channels when I can and the news in German when I'm there, I figure that this does help a bit, but probably not enough. Old dog, new tricks.

I embraced the internet back when it was a novelty and there wasn't much content outside of English anyway, so I only search off-English when I specifically need local content.
