I was at a work event yesterday and got chatting to a marketer who worked for Monster energy drinks
He told me this story about how a rival brand called Bang energy drinks
who had become huge in the beverage industry around 2021/2
So the story goes that, the owner of BE, had created a $1B in house canning supply chain, while Monster were relying on Coca cola to provide their manufacturing distribution
So Monster strategically bought the business from BE, thereby apparently letting the owner walk off into the sunset with a few million in his back pocket, also axing another competitor from the market

Pretty cool story and it got me thinking about the chokehold that Google and Apple have over the mobile phone market

Surely someone needs to create a rival handset or OS, like graphene are offering but on a grander scale and strategically wrestle the grip of power from them
So in preparation for writing this post, I researched the story I was given by the marketer and it turns out, that wasn't strictly true 🙄
Actually what happened was that Bang energy had entered the social media scene with a frenzy and were busy marking what they thought was their territory, but Monster saw this as an invasion of copyright and took BE to court and won!
The judge ordered BE to pay Monster millions in compensation which caused BE to go into liquidation
So Monster saw their opportunity and bought the assets of BE including the canning distribution network

Which returns me to the dilemma of privacy conscious Bitcoiners who want an alternative to the dominant incumbent

Obviously, as anything with a change of global concensus, we know to expect the equivalent powers that be, try to stamp on any potential progress
