A point of consternation for me was seeing the way a couple of these industrial miners also actively promoted low-hashrate machines that cost more money than the recycled machines that I wanted to buy. Most of these lower hashrate machines are more efficient, but will still never return a ROI in any amount of time and are actually harvested from the machines that I wanted to use.
Do you think this was greed or just lack of understanding of the situation? Typically electricity costs require efficient machines. With plenty of solar available, cheap hash rate is most important for your project.

As far as their motivation, I just don't know. I can only say that the line of reasoning put forward by one prominent figure in particular really bugged the hell out of me, especially since I was just trying to buy products that they claimed to be selling. I'm not sure it'd be fair for me to try to do any mind reading though.
