Forums in general seem to push people away from building audiences -- maybe because identity is not as important as content on forums (is this true? I think it is, also it's not my idea).
Not sure if I agree with that as a blanket principle. I've seen quite the audience / faction building on forums and subreddits in the past, sometimes by sociopaths and often ending in tears. It's probably easier to do on an IRC channel or nowadays on X, a discord or telegram group though, so maybe it would be fair to say "there are better places for this than fora"?
Not so much an antidote, as underoptimized for it?
